Las cepas de vino en Chile nacen de uvas que se nutren y crecen en condiciones muy especiales, las cuales dependen del valle en el que fueron plantadas.
Surely it’s happened to you. You want to pick out an especially good wine, either to drink yourself or gift to someone, but when it’s time to choose, you’re stumped. Will this wine be what I expect? Does it have good reviews? Is it well known? In order to avoid all of the questions, here we’ll tell you about the most renowned Viñedos Veramonte wine.
With more than 15 important recognitions, both domestic and international, Neyen is one of the greatest wines made by Viñdeos Veramonte. But, what makes it so special? This wine is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère, born at the intersection of the Andes Mountains and the Coastal Mountains.
Neyen is the Spirit of Apalta, because it brings together the best qualities of this magical place. The Neyen vineyard is one of the oldest in the New World, with vines that are over 135 years old. As they’re protected by the mountains, temperatures remain moderate, producing a slow ripening accompanied by a natural fermentation.
The vines have deep, old roots, so they require the most minimal of interventions, and are managed organically and biodynamically. The volcanic–granite soils have clay and silt from the river, providing naturally good drainage. These ancient Apalta soils are reflected in the flavors of the wines.
Vintages range from 2003 to 2017, and the blend is oftentimes divided 50–50 between the two grapes, while other times the Carménère makes up a greater percentage of the final wine.
The Contribution of each Variety
Cabernet Sauvignon is the backbone of this wine, while the Carménère adds body, silkiness, and a rounded sensation. Even though the blend varies year by year, the elegance and search for harmony and balance are something that always remain.

Apalta has proven itself to be an ideal spot, and important at the same time, for the growing of Carménère around the world. Renowned critic Luis Gutiérrez has said the same, referring to Neyen as “an interesting blend, with the strong character of the Cabernet, and also the splendid fruitiness from the ripe Carmenere, together with freshness, structure, and audacity from the Cabernet.”
And if that weren’t enough, the wine received 98 points from James Suckling, one of the most recognized and prestigious wine critics in the world. Suckling pointed out the exclusivity, character, and quality of Neyen, among its many virtues. This is the best among the many high scores received from international publications, including Tim Atkin MW, Wine Spectator, and Wine Advocate.
If you want to learn more details about its production, you can visit the winery in the Colchagua Valley, as we offer different options for tours and tastings. Here you’ll learn about some of the basics of winemaking and see our aging cellar that dates from 1890, making it one of the oldest in the Apalta Valley. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the winery is currently closed.
If you like red wine and enjoy wines that truly reflect their origins, Neyen is an excellent option for enjoying yourself or gifting to friends. Its exquisite flavor comes from a vineyard full of history.
